Monmouth Population: Ups & Downs

While Americans wait for tabulations from the 2010 Census, the Monmouth County Planning Board released population figures for county towns through the year 2009. During the period 2000-2009, the county’s population grew 7.7% or by nearly 48,000 people to just under 663,000 total residents.

The county municipalities with the biggest changes in population over the past decade were:

Gains:

  • Upper Freehold + 67.7%
  • Tinton Falls + 23.0%
  • Manalapan + 22.4
  • Millstone + 17.2%
  • Marlboro + 15.2%
  • Freehold Twp + 13.4
  • Holmdel + 10.7%
  • Englishtown + 9.8%
  • Long Branch + 9.2%
  • Howell + 8.3%

Loses:

  • Sea Girt – 4.4%
  • Shrewsbury Twp. – 3.2%
  • Deal – 2.5%
  • Roosevelt – 0.9%
  • Allenhurst – 0.7 %
  • Spring Lake Heights – 0.4%
  • Spring Lake – 0.2%
  • Interlaken 0.0%
  • Loch Arbour 0.0%

100 Years Ago—In 1910, Monmouth County had a population of 94,724 residents. Long Branch (13,298) and Asbury Park (10,105) were the two largest towns then. Now it’s Middletown (70,062) and Howell (52,946).
