Gift propels campaign into the home stretch at Riverview -

An announcement of major proportions has Riverview Medical Center giving a million thank-you’s.

Nancy Mulheren

The Red Bank-based hospital has announced a $1 million charitable contribution from Nancy Mulheren through The JAM Anonymous Foundation. The donation is a significant milestone in the efforts to fund the construction of Riverview’s new 22,000 square foot center for surgical excellence through the Life. Changing. Capital Campaign.

Nancy, a new trustee of the Riverview Medical Center Foundation Board, is an active local philanthropist involved with numerous charities in New Jersey and Virginia. She currently serves on the boards of Roanoke College, Canterbury School, Count Basie Theater, and the VNA of Central Jersey. She is president and CEO of Rumson Management, a real estate management company that encompasses residential, commercial, and retail properties in both states, and serves as director of The JAM Anonymous Foundation, established in tribute to her late husband John (who died in December 2003 at age 54) and dedicated to continuing his philanthropic legacy.

Making a Difference
“Most of my family lives in the towns surrounding Riverview, and we truly believe in helping the community,” said Nancy. “We know first-hand the importance of quality health care in our region, and I am grateful to the staff and the administration of the hospital for constantly striving to create a medical center of excellence right here in Monmouth County. At the end of the day we wanted to make a difference in the lives of those around us and are proud to support the tremendous growth at Riverview.”

The center for surgical excellence at Riverview will include: Two sophisticated specialty surgical suites, renovated post-anesthesia care area, relocated and renovated same-day surgery suite, and a state-of-the-art conference and educational center. Mrs. Mulheren’s gift signals an important milestone in the campaign, as the hospital nears the fundraising goal and breaks ground on the first phase of the construction project, which will allow Riverview to continue to perform life-changing brain, spine, hip, and knee surgeries right at the hospital.

“We are honored by this significant commitment from such a sophisticated philanthropist,” says David Flood, president, Meridian Health Affiliated Foundations. “Nancy’s personal commitment to her community, her generous philanthropy, and her leadership on the board truly make a statement about the importance of this project and lends additional honor and prestige to an impressive community effort in support of a center for surgical excellence at Riverview.”

Long History of Generosity
“We greatly appreciate the leadership and commitment of Nancy and the Mulheren family to Riverview Medical Center, not only for her time and insight, but also with her demonstration of financial support,” says Tim Hogan, FACHE, regional president of Riverview Medical Center and Bayshore Community Hospital. “Nancy has a long history with Riverview and this generous donation will continue that relationship for generations to come.”

Over the past 18 months the Riverview Medical Center Foundation has garnered more than $13 million in private donations from trustees, Medical Center team members, physicians, and community philanthropists. As the momentum continues, it is the hope of the Medical Center that it can now count on members of the community to consider supporting this significant project. This center for surgical excellence will have an impact on the lives of everyone in the community. To learn more about the center for surgical excellence or to support the Life. Changing.
